Specialists in conservation and restoration of murals by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation visited the Patriarchal Cathedral „St. Alexander Nevsky“ to draw up an expertise to help restore, preserve and restore the frescoes of the monument, reports the official website of the Patriarchal Cathedral.
They will also make recommendations and consultations to the Bulgarian specialists, who will undertake the restoration of the Patriarchal Cathedral. The Russian scientists from the Department of Investment and Property at the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation have made a detailed view of the state of the cathedral to date, and will be sending a report in the coming weeks.
The visit of the scientists comes after a proposal to support the restoration work of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who was visiting Bulgaria in March this year.
After a technical expertise made by the specialists of the University of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, it was found that damage was made to the southern and northern wing of the Patriarchal Cathedral. In the coming months, the Ministry of Culture is also expected to propose a way to carry out the second expertise of the murals. It is expected that all repairs, except for the restoration of the frescoes, will be completed in about two years.
