Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte met with Mr. Samuel Braunbeck, US State Department Representative on Religious Affairs

Today His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte met with the representative of the United States State Department on Religious Affairs Mr Samuel Braunbek, who is visiting our country.During the meeting Mr. Braunbeck shared more about his stay at Mount Athos during the Passover Feasts, as well as thanked our Patriarch for the kind reception. He also shared about his visit and his program, which included talks on religious freedom and the opposition to religious persecution in the world.

The representative of the State Department of the United States expressed his willingness to work together with the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in terms of Church and religious affairs. He invited the Bulgarian Patriarch and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church to take part in Conference organized in July in Washington, United States. 

„We hope to build a global community to stand in support of religion,“ said Mr Braunbek. He shared that he was on a visit to Greece, and is going to Romania and Moldova in the upcoming days.

„Peace and tolerance have always been important to us. In Sofia there is expression of tolerance to four denominations – Orthodox, Catholic, Jewish and Muslim, „said Patriarch Neophyte.

The meeting was also attended by his Grace Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, Head Secretary of the Holy Synod, Fr. Nikolay Georgiev, head of public relations at the Holy Synod, and Mr. Emil Velinov, Director of the Directorate for religious affairs at the Council of Ministers.

The meeting ended with wishes for future cooperation and success in every endeavor. In the book Mr. Samuel Braunbek has expressed a desire to deepen and strengthen relations between the United States and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
