This morning after a brief illness passed away the bishop of Glavinitsa John. In the last time he served his ministry in the Rila Monastery.
Bishop John was born as Stoyan Kostadinov Stoykov on 29.11.1949 in Sofia. Primary and lower secondary education ends in his hometown. Secondary education ends at the Sofia Seminary „St. John of Rila“ at the Cherepish Station. On January 11, 1969, he was accepted monastic vows in the Bachkovo Monastery. In 1976 he graduated the Spiritual Academy „St. Kliment Ohridski „in Sofia.
He was ordained a deacon and a priest, and then in 1976 he was crowned with the title Archimandrite. He consecutively performs the positions: the priests of the Vidin Holy Metropolis, the Deputy Rector of the Sofia Spiritual Seminary. Prior to being ordained as a bishop, he was head of the liturgical department at Holy Synod.
On 30.11.2010 he was ordained as a bishop with the title of Glaviniz. He performs the obedience – Vicar Bishop of the Metropolitan of Varna and Veliki Preslav Kiril. In recent years he has been in the Rila Monastery. Bishop John will remain in the memory of Orthodox Christians, as a bishop who loved the ministry of God and the liturgical order.
