In 1929, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church decided that the feast of the Virgin Mary would be the Day of the Christian Family and Orthodox Youth.
A true spiritual celebration became the 21st of November – the Day of the Christian Family and the Orthodox Youth. At the Feast of the Virgin Mary in the Seminary church „St. John of Rila“ was held a solemn liturgy by the Western and Central European Metropolitan Anthony.
After the solemn worship, a concert took place, which is already held for the second year. It was attended by not only the scholars from our spiritual school, but also the Ensemble „Philip Kutev“, led by Prof. Elena Kuteva. The concert truly delighted its guests and spectators not only with the traditional Orthodox chants dedicated to the feast as well as the forthcoming Nativity, but also with folk songs. The surprise of the guests was also the joint performance of the song „Nazat, Nazat mome Kalino“, between seminarists and ensemble.
Rector of the Seminary archim. Pahomi wished the disciples to grow up in faith, recalling the importance of the Feast of the Virgin Mary. He stressed that the day is also defined as the day of the Orthodox family, „and we in the Church are all family and no one left to ourselves,“ the Father-Rector added. Students from the seminary also showed their ability to play musical instruments such as tambourine, drum and piano.
Yesterday, the students also took part in the traditional concert for the Introduction of the Virgin, organized by Sofia’s Holy Metropolis in Bulgaria Hall. Their performances will be heard on Radio Dobrotoliubie FM radio.
