Memorial service for all killed, disappeared or repressed priests and monks of Sofia diocese after the political changes of 9 September 1944 was celebrated in the Metropolitan Cathedral „St. Nedeliq“.
With the blessing of His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte the memorial service was celebrated by Bishop Polycarp of Belogradchik, vicar of the Sofia Metropolitan. The service was attended by many priests from Sofia and deacons.
During the memorial service, the names of all the dead and injured priests and monks were mentioned by the hand of the atheistic communist regime that took place in our country after September 9, 1944. It was also mentioned archimanrite Irinai, who was a protosingelos of the Sofia Metropolitan and has disappeared after the political changes.
In his sermon Bishop Policarp said that these priests and monks had given their lives to the church and people and would not be forgotten by the people’s memory. He also said that at the moment a Sofia metropolitan has a commission that works to search for more information about all the tortured priests and monks, which list and information to be handed over to Holy Synod for forthcoming canonization.
