On Sunday of all Bulgarian saints, the Bulgarian Church celebrated 1000 years since the establishment of the Bulgarian Archbishopric of Ohrid.
His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory of Veliko Tarnovo headed the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky. His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch Neofit also attended the service. Metropolitans of the BOC, bishops and abbots of our great monasteries, representatives of the Russian and Romanian Orthodox Churches also took part in the celebration.
At the end of Divine Liturgy, Bishop Gerasim of Melnik read the Patriarchal and Synodic message on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the establishment of the Ohrid Archbishopric. It states that „the history of the Archbishop’s Department of the ancient and glorified Ohrid is an organic, unconditional part of the historical continuity of our native Bulgarian Orthodox Church.“
